Fit at fifty project – protein shakes

It is my aim, and has been for a while now, to be as fit and healthy as I can possibly be by the time I reach the age of 50 in 2020, hopefully without too many aches and pains.

One of the ways I have been planning to do this is by regularly taking protein shakes along with a healthier diet. From the beginning of 2019 I was drinking the ProMax Lean protein powder, which whilst it tasted great, it turned out to be really expensive just as soon as I added it on my regular subscription with Amazon. It also left me with a bloated stomach which I put down to a slight lactose intolerance.

So I went on the search for an alternative protein shake and lo and behold I came across The Protein Works. This manufacturer has regular discounts on their wide-ranging products which include lactose-free alternatives. In the end I chose the strawberries ‘n’ cream vegan protein powder which not only takes great (you might need to add a little more water and keep the water at a cooler temperature) it is made from pure protein from a variety of plants rather than from Whey which I think should be healthier for me in the long run.

I particularly like their bright orange and black packaging with no images of bulky muscular men or going to the other extreme of looking too clinical as if you were taking a drug from pharmaceutical company. The message which changes from bag to bag on either side of the packaging is also rather inspirational as is the outer packaging when the product is delivered.

colourful, clear and simple packaging without being too complicated, technical or confusing unlike other brands of protein powders

If you are interested in doing the same with regards to getting fit and healthy I couldn’t recommend The Protein Works highly enough. My referral code to use is MT1352733 when you place your first order with them. They are also on the TopCashBack site so you could save further by visiting them first…!

Jo on the go…

Jo on the go… is a new company that my wife has set up to cater for local carers and small businesses who struggle to find time to dip into social media and general administrative tasks for their own businesses. She wanted something that looked bright and friendly with plenty of energy to reflect her persona; a simple straight forward approach to people and projects.

At the moment she is busy helping to prepare for the MGSO4 Epsom and Ewell Arts Festival which will be running from 24-26 June 2016 across Epsom and Ewell in Surrey. Click here to find out more information on all the events and tickets in the up-and-coming festival.

Install Wizard – sure does a clean install

Well it is that time of year again! Birthday time for a fellow Point 6 work colleague and this year it is for Vijay – our IT and web guru. As usual I wanted to do something that would reflect what he does and something that was a little less run-of-the-mill. So after I heard Vijay and a colleague chatting about him being an ‘Installation Wizard’ I thought there might be some mileage in this for his birthday card.

So as a result of this, I set about setting up/redrawing a Mac installation progress bar for the front of the card with the title ‘Birthday Update’ and showing a progress bar that is nowhere near finished but has a time of zero days remaining – a little IT  joke in that progress bars, particularly those on PCs, when installing are never accurate! Just added a little touch like typical web file names and the number of items (people’s signatures) installed/signed inside the card.

Then on the inside I added my own personal message which was based on the first verse of the Pinball Wizard song by The Who with certain words substituted at key points along the way…

Ever since I was a young boy
I used a mouse which had a ball
From Queens Park down to Soho
I must have used them all
But I ain’t seen nothing like him
In any studio at all…
That Mac magician Vijay
Sure does a clean Install!

Happy Birthday! Install Wizard

Oh and I also produced a personalised mug for him to have at work…

The evolution of man, on a Brompton

As part of our yearly routine at Point 6 Design one lucky work colleague has to organise a birthday celebration for a fellow colleague in the form of a card and a gift. It fell upon me earlier this year to organise this for a colleague who is very keen on cycling. He commutes into Victoria on the train and then from there cycles on his Brompton to work.

I thought it was only fitting that I share his love of cycling with his fellow work colleagues and produce for him a personalised greetings card with a difference. On the front I did an illustration of the evolution of man (that we are all I am sure familiar with) and just added him on his bike as the last stage in the evolution process.

On the inside of the card it was more personalised with a bunch of abstract sections of bike (photographs taken from my son’s bike) spelling out his name.
